Coral has been called the “garden of the sea”.
Other Names-: Moonga (Indian Name), Rosso, Munga, Bhauma-Ratna, Gems of Mars, Vidruma,Abdhijantu, Being of the ocean.
Origin-: Coral is explained in Greek mythology by the story of Perseus.
Colour\ Varieties-: White, Pink, Red, orange, Blue to violet, Golden, Brown and Black.
Type of Coral-:
Calcareous Coral: Carbonate type (white, pink, red and orange) display a distinctive pattern of parallel strips of slightly different colour and transparency.
Conchiolin Coral: Horny types (black, blue, golden and brown) display concentric structure about the axis of the original branch.
Hardness-: 3 with the trigonal crystal structure.
Zodiac Sign-: Pisces (red or pink), scorpio (red), black (capricorn) and pink(taurus).
Birthstone-: October.
Transparency-: Semi-translucent to opaque.
Lustre-: Waxy to Vitreous.
Occurrence-: Mediterranean Sea or in the Pacific off Japan and Taiwan, Algeria, Tunisia, Spain, Italy, France, India, Corsica,Sardinian, Tunisia and China.

Care and Cleaning-: Coral Gems are both soft and porous and hence they should only be wiped clean with moist cloth.
Avoid chemicals, cosmetics and ultrasonic cleaners. Be careful about chemicals in hairspray, cosmetics or perfumes.
